Not far- just about half an hour’s boat ride from the shores of Bali, you can reach Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, the little brothers of Nusa Penida Island.
These small islands are very promising for a few-day adventure with wonderful beaches, stunning rocky bays and sealife.
Lembongan and Ceningan are a great choice if you only have time for a short 1-2-day mini trip after Bali, but also then if you have enough time and still want to visit other gorgeous islands after the Gili Islands.
It is very easy to get to Lembongan from Bali, there are many boat companies offering tours and there are organized day-trips as well. Who wants to combine the Gili Islands with Lembongan & Ceningan, before going back to Bali, has the option to purchase a “multi-island” boat ticket Bali-Gili-Lembongan-(Penida)-Bali.
Two days are enough for Lembongan and Ceningan, but since they are bigger and more hilly than Gili, you really have to rent a scooter here if you want to get to the most beautiful places and bays.
For those who don't have experience with motorbikes, might be afraid of getting around with a scooter, plus if in addition you are even afraid of heights, then this small single-lane yellow bridge connecting Lembongan and Ceningan will be a real challenge for you.
But don't panic because the locals are very patient ... :)
Things not to miss in Lembongan:
Sunset Beach, from where you can enjoy beautiful sunsets.
The Mangrove Forest, located in the northeastern tip of the island, where besides the beautiful sunrise you can also discover the special Mangrove trees with their breathing roots.
Devil’s Tears lookout point, where the wind is always blowing and giant waves crash through the rocks.
If you cross the small bridge to Ceningan, there will be much less traffic, so the beautiful viewpoints are not as touristy as in Lembongan.
Here, make sure that you go to the Blue Lagoon, which is a breathtaking sight. And without any filters, the sea plays in such wonderful bright blue colors.
--> For me, it was the most beautiful lookout on the two islands.
There are also many other more beautiful hidden little bays in the western part of the island.
After an adventurous day, for sure you will enjoy relaxing a bit on the beach. The underwater wildlife here is also astonishing, just like in Gili, so make sure to snorkel a bit around. There are beautiful corals, starfish, and shells in the water off the coast of Lembongan.
